Slew, Yes, that's the one I sent to you. I wonder how often they update the odds? Barry, It's out of our hands now. The Eclipse group needs to accept the fact that the racing industry has made some pretty disruptive changes already, and they are more than free (if not obligated) to make a change in their voting pattern this year. Their hallowed "tradition" was thrown out the door with the commencement of a third track surface still under critical scrutiny and the assignment of the Breeders' Cup to that track surface two years in a row. "Tradition" may have called for a great horse to run well on either dirt or grass, fast or muddy. Synthetics are not a part of that traditional mandate. In New Jersey on Haskell day, I almost drowned in the rain. Rachel won on that track over a good group of male peers, and the track was just short of a raging river. At Saratoga, the sun shone on a magnificently beautiful day, and Rachel won on that fast track - against the older boys. I was there to see the tactics planned and played from start to finish against that terrific filly. My immediate thought was it was almost like a gang rape, but she defended herself and won. You see, Rachel too is a fantastic SuperStar. And it is time for the Horse of the Year to be awarded to the best horse on each of the distinctly different surfaces that have created a dual category. If the change is not made, then both of these most admirable creatures will be cheated. They both deserve a celebratory award and event to please the world. But to repeat, it is out of our hands now.

Barry,

Some horses just run better on dirt and some run better on synthetics - evidenced by how well dirt horses have done in the last two BCs. Turf horses run better on synthetics than dirt horses. There is no level playing field anymore.

I have knocked the TOM before and again..He made comments pertaining to weight RA recieved and that was his excuse as to why she won..after me pointing out that zenyatta recieved weight in the classic and by his standards 1ilb=1/2 length zenyatta would have LOST the classic,so this is what we are dealing with the make him understand what Horse of the YEAR really means...If he thinks that was the best the world had to offer he is again mistaken,i have pointed out the same things you have Skip time and time again..and i have come to realize (or maybe i havent) that people are just ignorant...These comments i make are from a man who's favorite horse is Zenyatta...But this person is a say it like it is,and very principled ..There is noway anyone can compare with what the 2 of them have done this year,I have a feeling as though Yatta will be HOY,and it will be a injustice,the same injustice that happened to her last year,because she in fact derserved the honor in 08 ,probably by the same margin RA derserves it this year...

Tom 14-14 was a career nota year,if you want to debate who is the better horse i will accept that and take your opinion in stride...this talk is not about who is better,this is about who has done more in the 2009..if you are that closed minded thats your problem..But it takes a bigger man to realize something and say he is wrong..this has never passed your thick scull yet..I would hope to see people realize what RA has done..i would also love for everyone to appreciate what yatta has done..Its really hard knocking something so dear to me..I am just calling a strike a strike and not a ball because its nolan ryan pitching...

Lets be really honest my friends.

Rachel has had one GREAT year!, Zenyatta has had TWO GREAT years UNDEFEATED.

I have to only ask one question of everyone here and the voters.

Be BRUTALLY HONEST! with your responses.

Question: How can the racing community accept a mare who has won every race in her entire life, winning the Breeders Older Mare in he first year of racing, BUT to repeat the following in her second year of racing, with the pinnacle event in front of the entire world, THE BREEDERS CUP CLASSIC, against the year strongest field assemble.

I don't think the question has anything to do with, what Rachel has done!,

IT CAN NOT BE DISPUTED "RACHEL IS SIMPLY FULL OF GREATNESS"

To the voters for the Horse of The Year honors, the question is , HOW CAN YOU LIVE WITH YOURSELF AND VOTE AGAINST THE GREATEST OLDER FILLY AND MARE OF ALL TIME!

You all know, how I believed and beloved CURLIN, before his assault on the Triple Crown road. I WAS IN CURLIN CORNER.

So, I fully understand how great CURLIN was and is!, but I have to put things into perspective.

CURLIN is a OLDER male, and the Horse of the Year, more so than less, goes to Older Males!

Zenyatta, lost out to CURLIN last year was "Understandable"

But this year, is "REDEMPTION" and the voters will be faced with BLOOD staining the industry if they don't vote for Zenyatta.

It not about a single year of racing, it's about Zenyatta entire career on the field of battle. Old warriors do win the esteem honors over the newbies! (RACHEL), if they can repeat the prior year performances.

THIS IS THE CIRCUMSTANCE THIS YEAR! The celebration of Zenyatta legacy. THAT WHY THIS WORD IS IN THE ENGLISH DICTIONARY! "LEGACY"

In Zenyatta case, she not only repeated last year performance, but surpass all prior older mares years of racing!

If the voters do not elect Zenyatta as Horse of the Year, it will be known as the year the Thoroughbred industry, turn their back on "GREATNESS" for two straight years. Sure you can get away with it, if the horses are different. But, if the horse is the same (ZENYATTA), THERE IS NO WHERE ANY VOTER CAN HIDE.

Imagine ZENYATTA, name appears second for back to back years!

Can anyone of you even name who finish second in the voting each year for last 10 years ? or even go back further ? Think about it!, Zenyatta name will be forgotten over time, because she will be remember as the older mare, the Thoroughbred industry, never remember on the day of remembrance. "Horse of The Year"

That what this day really stands for, a celebration of "Remembrance"

So I can't imagine the industry goes blind for two years concerning the GREATEST ACCOMPLISHED MARE TO EVER RACE.

NO OTHER OLDER MARE WILL EVER WIN HORSE OF THE YEAR HONOR UNTO ETERNITY IF ZENYATTA DOES NOT WIN.

THIS IS BLOOD STAIN THE HORSE RACING INDUSTRY CANNOT AFFORD TO HAVE WRITTEN INTO ITS HISTORY!

THEY WILL NOT SELF AFFLICT THE SPORT WE ALL SO LOVE.

RACHEL WILL HAVE HER DAY IN THE SUN (EXPECTED RETURN 2010), BUT THIS YEAR BELONG TO THE ZENYATTA, BECAUSE HISTORY DEMANDS, SHE WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBER.

ZENYATTA REMAIN UNDEFEATED AS RUFFIAN AND PERSONAL ENSIGN. (BOTH CHAMPIONS)

EVERYONE ARGUED, SHE HAS NOT RACE MALES?, WELL ZENYATTA GAVE THE RACING INDUSTRY WHAT THEY ASK FOR AND MORE. SHE NOT ONLY RACED MALES, BUT BEAT THE BEST OF THEM FROM LAST TO FIRST.

YOU CANNOT ASKED, FOR ANY BETTER PERFORMANCES, ZENYATTA HAS GRACED US WITH!

RACHEL VACATED HER ACCLAIM TO THE TITLE. RACHEL COULD HAVE REMAIN IN TRAINING TO FACE ZENYATTA IN THE BREEDERS CUP, BUT DECLINED!

YOU CAN ARGUE!, YES RACHEL HAD A LONG HARD YEAR.

BUT AS FAR AS I KNOW!, THE YEAR OF RACING STARTS ON JANUARY 1ST AS FOR ALL COMPETITORS,

AND EACH AN EVERY OWNER AND TRAINER KNOWS, THE PINNACLE EVENT IS THE BREEDERS CUP CLASSIC.

WHEN JESS PURCHASE RACHEL, I'M SURE HE PENCIL IN BREEDERS CUP AS THE PRIMARY GOAL FOR YEAR END.

WHO DOESN'T?

WHAT JESS DID WAS TO TURN THE PENCIL AROUND AND USE THE ERASER, ON THE BREEDERS CUP AND ANY POSSIBLE MATCH WITH THE BEST FIELD IN HORSE RACING.

THAT WAS A PERSONAL DECISION, AND AN EMBARRASSMENT TO HIS CAMP AND THE WORLD WHO WOULD HAVE LOVED TO SEE RACHEL RACE AGAINST ZENYATTA ON THE BIGGEST DAY IN RACING.

WHEN YOU USE THE ERASER, YOU LOSE!

THIS IS WHY RACHEL WILL NOT WIN "HORSE OF THE YEAR", NOT ANYTHING THE GREAT FILLY HAS DONE. THIS POINT CANNOT BE ARGUED, BUT WHAT JESS HAS DONE BY SLANDERING THE BREEDERS CUP "TRADITION"

IF YOU CANNOT RESPECT THE INDUSTRY YOU WANT US TO BELIEVE YOU LOVE. THEN PARTICIPATE IN THE GREATEST DAY OF RACING.

IT'S JUST BAD BUSINESS AND VERY UNPROFESSIONAL.

CHAMPIONS ARE MADE, ON ANY TYPE OF SURFACE IN ANY KIND OF WEATHER.

SOME DAYS YOU GET THE SUN, BUT OTHER YOU GET THE RAIN,

SO WHAT IF THE FILED OF PLAY IN ON DIRT OR SYNTHETIC,

EVERY OPPONENT HAS TO PLAY ON THE SAME FIELD.

I REMEMBER THE SAME COMMENTARY CONCERNING ASTRO TURF, IN THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE, HECK I REMEMBER THE AMERICAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE USE A DIFFERENT COLOR FOOTBALL (RED , WHITE AND BLUE), THEN THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE.

WE SEE THE SAME ARGUMENT WHEN THE WBA USE A DIFFERENT BRAND OF LEATHER ON THEIR BASKETBALL.

Slew, if you promise not to tell anyone, I have completely flipped over the Persona of that wicked witch of the west. She has the stage presence of a Star. I would love to watch the two girls meet - not race, just meet - to see how they would react to each other, if they would instantly recognize their mutual greatness. In any case, on to the Derby. He is by Distorted Humor, out of Spangled, who is by Kris S. If you remember, Kris S. is behind Zenyatta. The other names are Connemara, Buddy's Saint and Pow Wow. I'll check further on these and let you know why I was prompted to single them out. Let me know if you are able to get that futures listing, which is provided by Brisnet and (I assume) issued by the Race & Sports Book of Wynn/Encore.

Horse of the year honors are given to the horse that has done more for horse racing in a season than any other.

To return ti america what was taken from america by performing at the highest level and winning makse the great ZENYATTA HORSE OF THE YEAR IN EVERYONES BOOK.

When has rachel Alexandra made history or performed at the top level.

You can not perform at the top if you refuse to compete at the top. not to mention dodge top level competition.Zenyatta defeated all that Rachel has plus the best that the world has to offer. You can not perform at a higher level than that.

As I HAVE SAID BEFORE HORSE OF THE YEAR has to be earned by competing against and defeating the best of the best and Zenyatta not Rachel Alexandra has done this. To be champion you must beat the champion and Zenyatta has been that champion two years running.The last I time I checked Rachel has dodge the champion not run against or defeat the champion.

Zenyatta has made history in horse racing and that is done by doing something that has nor been done before, not something that has not been done in number of years but never done before.

Maybe when Rachel Alexandra wins a CLASSIC she will be second best to the great Zenyatta but she will never be as great as Zenyatta because she can never be UN-DE-FEAT-ED SINCE THE GREAT ZENYATTA IS 14-0 WITH A CLASSIC WINand Rachel Alexandra has lost three races already.

Hi Racheldrooler,

Been licking my wounds ever since the wicked witch of the west destroyed me ( and Gio Ponti ). Concerning the Derby a lot of the preps have been changing their schedules. The Fla. Derby is six weeks prior now and the Louisiana Derby is five weeks before the Derby. This will undoubtedly affect stables in their planning. The Florida Derby may suffer the most.
