Hey Frank! And any other Illinois horse players! Bob here; I live in Elmhurst. Almost went to Hawthorne Saturday but the heavy rain stopped me. I wound up at the OTB in Hodgkins. I'm there often for lunch as I work nearby. I have been known to frequent the OTB in Oakbrook Terrace also.
When I'm not at the track or OTB, there always is TVG and my various online betting accounts. Actually I don't bet a lot of races. I find the couple I like and bet them pretty heavily.
My nickname is Derby Bob from going to the KY Derby over the years. I first went in 1983. I also almost only bet races that lead up to the Triple Crown. So right now I'm betting two year olds. I really enjoy all the prep races leading up to the KY Derby.
Yuk! This spell checker does not know things like OTB or even TVG. It has a lot to learn!

Highland Park Il...Have only been to Hawthorne once since I have lived in Chicago<20yrs.> I only support Arlington International,I love the ambience and charm of that particular course, which I found lacking at other Chicago area tracks. But when I find a good overlay @Hawthorne in the Form,I will play it because of the amazing stretch there...Peaceful n winning day 2all....CB

As an A.R.C. member for the past 10 yrs. my addmission n preferred parking as of last yr. is comped for a lifetime,my private box is an amenity I chose for myself 5 yrs. ago,and since I dont attend the Million races I lease my box for that particular wknd. and the amount I incur from that lease pays for my box for the season. Im not putting Hawthorne or any other Chicago area track 'down',Arlington simply happens to be my premiere choice.Peaceful n winning day!...CB

Hawthorne is where it is at. I frequent Hawthorne, and the OTB in Hodgkins (Best food for an OTB ever).
Hawthorne has really low limits for bets, decently priced food, and good buffets in the Gold Cup Room.
Also at Hawthorne, you can pay $3 to actually sit next to, and talk with, owners and trainers in the Gold Cup Room. Can't do that at Arlington.
Don't get me wrong, I love Arlington. Arlington is prestigious, beautiful, and the place to be for the summer.
However, $7 regular admission, $15 ! on Big Race Days. The food prices rival a sporting event. Also, if you go with a group, you have to buy box seats (an extra $6 at least) or show up 3 hours early to get a free table for your group. Not much seating at all indoors.
I love both, but if you want to go somewhere to just bet...go to Hawthorne. If you wanna dress up and look classy, bring a broad to Arlington in a big hat.

I go to Hawthorne. Might go tomorrow, but Arlington is the place to be. Last year we joined for the year and for $99.00 we both got free admission and preferred parking. Paid for itself in no time. You can hang out with the owners and trainers in the paddock. They are there all the time. Nothing more beautiful than Arlington on a warm summer day.

The past 2 years, Sportclips has offered free admission tickets to preferred customers (pretty much anyone who walks in there) so I have only paid to get into Arlington on Million day.
Do you have to be a preferred member to get into the Paddock? Or are you talking about the outside of the circled paddock.
Also, I have a lock for today at Hawthorne, Mustang Stacey in the 5th Race.
