Race 1 )
Baywatch Girl - Is bred to enjoy a route of ground and should thrive over the grass. Her connections pointed her to the lawn for her first two attempts and she came very close to crashing through in her second start, back in August. She was given a rest after that taxing effort and has been working steadily on the poly for this return to action. She gets a significant class reduction as she drops into the lower claiming levels for a barn that casts off anything less than solid allowance types on a regular basis. Trainer Lynch has huge ( 48% ) numbers with horses returning from this type of layoff. She has excellent tactical speed and Husbands should have her just off the leaders from the cozy outside draw. She handles a route of ground and except for the skimpy return offered at the windows she looks very appealing. Short priced graduate.
Ima Soul Miss - Was a buyback for owner/breeder Fipke at the 07 Keeneland Sale. She had a couple of false starts on her training regimen but has been working like clockwork since early August. She makes her debut in a rather modest event considering her excellent pedigree and her speedy drills. She does make her first start going around two turns, never an easy proposition, but, at this lowly level, she may be up to the task. Attfield is a Hall of Famer who spots them correctly. Chantal gets live calls for this outfit and this filly merits consideration.
Caledon - Is a four year old filly tackling mostly younger runners. She is making start number twelve, but she has shown up with big efforts against much better maidens in the past. She has been mainly focusing on grass racing but drops into her lowest level to date in search of a late season diploma. She has been freshened since bombing in a turf marathon against superior runners. She has a couple of handy five furlong drill son her worktab and trainer Bell could have her cranked for a big one.
Tessera - Dropped into maiden claiming two starts back and showed a real appreciation for the reduced level of competition with two big efforts. She looked good with a speed try as the favourite last time out, holding off all but one long overdue filly, a class higher. She doesn't look like a very strong win prospect , but, she could hang in for a share.
Race 2 )
Stranger Things - Looked like a good thing at two and was asked to take on the best fillies on the grounds. She has been on the shelf since late November and gets back to her conditions and looks to be a taking a real class edge here. Trainer Richards has her breezing slowly in the mornings and he has a 30% mark with runners returning to action after prolonged layoffs. She came out running in her first couple as a baby and looks to have this group over a barrel.
Moonlight Desire - Has been lingering at this level for her ages with several near misses to her credit. She is a speedy sort who always shows up to play. Her most recent was against better, but, she fell predictably, just short. She has been rested a month and has three nice drills including a sparkling bullet on 10/11. She fits with these and could complete the exactor
Lucky n' Bold - Goes for a barn that came to life in a big way a couple of months ago. She is well regarded by this outfit as they have pointed her to a couple of stakes tries. Her last couple at this level were quite good. She has the best speed in here and draws the rail, if Sutherland can get her to relax at any point, she could prove troublesome.
Race 3 )
Intuition Magic - Hasn't had much production for his shrewd connections this season but has been showing the signs of late. He almost ran down Put Upon in his last outing. That runner got the jump on him as he was laying off a tiring speedball. Put Upon looks to be the lone speed in here and he will have a big target on his back. Pizzaro should have this guy well positioned to pounce today. He has been working well and his price should be appealing. The one to beat.
Put Upon - Looks live here. He has excellent tactical speed but has the ability to relax. There are no other confirmed front runners in here, so, the ball will be in Rainford's court as she will be trying to reserve this one for the late stages. He is stepping up in class once again and come to this off of back to back scores. His barn is on a roll these days and this guy must be run down. Major speed threat.
Knightly Attire - Is a deep closer who is completely dependant on pace. There won't be much conflict up front early and this guy will be handcuffed. He is formful and can generally be counted on to make a big run in the last furlong. He could tag along for a share.
Archers Alyancer - Is the big question mark here. This multiple stakes winner has been away since April, gets a new barn and drops into his lowest level ever in search of some late season cash. He is another closer who likes to have something to run at but his back class is pretty deep and if he is half right, he could make big noise here. Watch the board late.
Race 4 )
Bristol Indian - This race was originally carded for the lawn, but, considering the constant downpour locally, we predict that this maiden affair will wash off that surface and go on the poly instead. This guy has a pedigree that screams talent on either surface. He is making his fourth start and his first three came in shorter events that were taken down by well meant winners. He gets to stretch his legs this day and the blinkers go on. Contreras is back after a one race absence. He may be largely overlooked by the betting public and that only makes him more attractive from this corner. The pick.
Southern Legend - Will be pounded by the punters off of some near misses against some well regarded youngsters. He handles either surface and is a definite threat regardless of where they run. He has a nice mix of speed and distance in his pedigree. He gets to go two turns today and should be a major pace factor. Leading rider Husbands sticks with him and a recent five furlong drill was sharp. Carroll's runners do well on the stretchout angle and this guy looks like a major player here.
Power Wow - Goes for the red hot tandem of owner Ed Seltzer and trainer Danny Vella. He has been pointed to the lawn in each of his three starts but really came to life in his most recent when they switched surfaces and he was a hard charging fourth going seven on the poly. He should be closer to the pace with the added distance. McAlaney is a hand at relaxing young runners and this guy looks as likely as any in here. Don't sell short.
Sligolicious - Made his debut in a key race, going a flat mile on the grass and lost all chance when left flat footed at the break. He did look good in the later stages and took a hint of mutual support in that full field. He has been zooming along in the mornings over the poly and his pedigree says that he should handle either surface with ease. It looks like Vella will run this one too and he must be considered.
U S C Fight Song - Is an also eligible and is way down the list of likely starters, but, in the event that he draws in, he could be viewed as an outsider with a big shot. He was well backed in his opener, off of his blue blooded family tree and his crafty human connections. That came in July and hasn't been heard from since. Asmussen has a big number with his second shooters and he could slide into the tri picture.
Race 5 )
Instinctiveafleet - Goes for trainer Simon Stuart who is quietly making a name for himself in these parts by finding the right situations for his runners and wasting very few opportunities. This gal was never regarded as a big filly, so, when they priced her accordingly, she has responded with a solid 2/4 record. Both of her wins have come at this distance and in each instance, she looked like an old pro, sitting just off of the speed and pouncing late. There is a load of cheap speed in here for her to track and McAlaney, who was aboard for each of her starts will know when to pull the trigger. Jimmy Mac had another likely looking option here, but jumped ship on that filly to keep this mount. Well priced, well meant, and the one to beat.
Back to Therapy - Goes for a red hot barn and has been testing better company on a regular basis. Her shrewd connections drops her to the lowest level in search of some late season getaway money. She has good tactical speed and draws to the outside. She doesn't need the lead and if Wilson can get her to relax early, she could be deadly late. A must use in the multi race wagers.
Jumnptoconclusions - Has had a productive campaign and has really come to life since dropping into the lowest levels. She has made the exactor in five of eight tries at this distance and is another who can mount a late charge when allowed to relax early. McAlaney, who gets the most out of her opted forr the choice but she gets a capable replacement with Sutherland. If she doesn't run off in the opening stages, she should be rolling through the lane.
McKenzie's Cat -Is a speed type who can usually last a long way on the engine. She really spit the bit last time out and halves in value in an attempt to inspire confidence. She will have company up front this day but may hang around for a piece of the pie.
Race 6 )
Rahy's Attorney - As a handicapper, trying to beat the chalk is always job one, but, in this case, it looks like Rahy's Attorney's connections have found a very easy looking spot to snap him out of a recent funk. He thrives over a course with lots of give in it and he will certainly get that today. He has been fed a steady diet of Graded Stakes engagements and he now gets a break and finds himself back in against fellow Ontario breds. His regular rider loses the call and Landry, who rode him earlier in his career takes over. He is a four time winner going this trip and has eight wins over his home course. He was up on a hot pace in The Woodbine Mile over firm footing and tired late. Too many things will go his way today and he looks like a popular winner.
Sand Cove - Is the defending champ, who romped as a three year old over inferior opposition last year. He loves this course but has never tried anything other than firm footing. He was ambitiously spotted in The Woodbine Mile and he checked in just shy of the pick in an even race. He is a productive, " Steady Eddie" who has taken down a third of his twenty one career starts and banked a half a million along the way. He has excellent speed and Dos Ramos will have options from his outside draw. Exactor Factor.
Society's Chairman - Like Sand Cove, he is trained by Hall of Famer, Roger Attfield. He romped over a very average bunch as the odds on choice in the restricted Halton Stakes. That came six weeks ago and he has been rested since, likely readying for this assignment. He does his best running when he has some pace to run at and the top two are both gifted front enders. If they do clash and are winded in the late stages, this guy looks like the one who will run them down. Maybe.
Race 7 )
Gas N Dash - Changed riders and tactics in his most recent and was allowed to take back early and watch a speed duel up front only to come flying late and smoke his N2L condition. He steps up slightly today but, if he follows that same recipe, things may work out well for him as there looks to be plenty of conflicting speed in the line up. Pizarro is sticking with him and DiPasquale has kept him sharp in the mornings with a couple of solid interim drills. Look for him to get up late.
Daniel Be Good - Is the class of the field and should be dangerous as he cuts back after fading late in a route experiment. He goes for cagey conditioner Nick Gonzalez and barn regular Da Silva gets the return call. After blowing through his first two conditions, he has been stalling at this level. He is sharp and should be viewed as one of the better ones in here.
Private Meeting - Is making his third start off of the bench and showed some good early lick in his second back. He has shown an ability to rate in the past and he goes for the up and coming Paul Attard. Emma Wilosn is back for this and she gets the majority of live calls from this barn. He looks to be sitting on a big race and he could crash through at a healthy price.
Sprint Master - Is making his sixth start at this level and may be developing some hanging tendencies. He is a steady sort who likes to mix it up. Fraser is back once again and while he doesn't look like a win candidate, he could hit the tri ticket.
Race 8 )
Canary Diamond - This sprint is originally carded for the lawn, but, we see it as a maiden race that will be relocated to the poly track. This filly is making her debut for Team Stronach under the care of Brian Lynch who excels with his debuting runners. She has a nice speed oriented pedigree and has a litany of steady main track drills under her girth and many of them have demonstrated obvious talent. Husbands does a lot of work for this barn in the mornings and is rewarded with many live calls. If she does in fact go in this spot, she could come out running. At first asking.
Luna Blu - Is a Main Track Only entrant who looks like she will get a chance to strut her stuff. Her connections have high hopes for this filly as her Mother was a local stakes winning millionaire and they dropped a bundle to mate with Lemon Drop Kid. Her works are sharp and she goes for former local rider and fledgling trainer ( and ten year assistant to Casse ) Ricky Griffith. This field may be decimated by scratches and she looks like another lively first timer.
Rebecca's Song - Has more of a grass pedigree but she has run well in each of her main track appearances. She relaxed nicely in her most recent and made a premature move getting picked off late stages, going seven. She cuts back and draws the rail. She should get a trip. One to ponder.
Sunjet Drive - Is yet another debuting runner here who was pointed to the lawn but will likely be going on the main. Her works are sparkling. She is listed as a 5/2 ML prospect, based on her sharp grass drills, but, those odds made drift up on the main. The barn is on fire but surprisingly, Sutherland hasn't been able to connect in thirteen tries for Team Pierce this season. The board may offer some real time clues.
Race 9 )
Quiet Approval - Made his first start in eighteen weeks in his most recent and dropped back into mid level claiming for that try. He showed some decent speed going seven against a good group. He is now reclassified and finds himself at the lowest level locally and gets to go two turns. He was landing on the fringes going long against MUCH better earlier in his career and this situation should suit him to a tee. He gets a big rider switch to Husbands and with that tightener out of the way, it should be all systems go. He has the tools and this group shouldn't pose a threat. Graduation Day.
Apparat - Is a runner who gives up the ghost after one seriously good MSW effort, where he checked in third in a rapidly run turf sprint. He has ten foot pole marks all over him as his trainer gave him six weeks to recover from that impressive try and now drops him in for the minimum. He gets lasix and has only a couple of slow breezes on his worktab. The big question is, are these connections taking a late season edge, or are they trying to unload damaged goods. Your guess is as good as mine. Watch for late support.
Numerous Executive - Dropped into maiden claiming a couple of starts ago and has shown marked improvement. He went forward again when he stretched it out to a route in his most recent. McKnight runs them where they can win and this guy looks to be priced right. He draws the rail for the third straight time and figures to hit the tri ticket with a stalking trip under Da Silva.
He's All That - Has some real longshot appeal. He had a horrendous break in his most recent, which was ending another layoff and once he got untracked really came flying through the lane under hungry apprentice Cheyne. He is a lightly raced four year old who has looked good in both route attempts locally. He could make some noise with a better break at long odds. Nice exotics booster.
Awesome Rubiano - Has been making career of it here in the lower maiden ranks and was even claimed from his seventh start that came at this level by under rated trainer Parente. He gets a rider switch to Western bug boy Moreno. He usually lands on the fringes and might get a piece of the super.
